How to run the relay
THE START AND FINISH OF THE RACE ARE BOTH ACCESSED FROM THE MAIN NORTH PARKING LOT OF THE CALGARY ZOO.
THERE IS NO SHUTTLE PROVIDED BETWEEN THE RELAY LEGS.
RELAY LEG LOCATIONS:
Leg 1. From the main north lot the start is inside the zoo grounds
Leg 2. Smaller west/south parking lot of the Zoo
Leg 3. Immediately North of the Eau Claire ‘Y’, just prior to the pedestrian bridge to Prince’s Island Park. Parking available on road around Barclay Parade and 2nd Ave SW.
RELAY TEAM LOGISTICS
Leg 1 runner parks at North parking lot (start/finish).
Leg 2 runner parks at the “Rouge” parking lot on the south side of the Inglewood iron bridge and walks to the Leg 2 start across the street from the Zoo West/South entrance. (This parking lot is closed on race day which is why the parking is @Rouge.) The Leg 2 runner gives their spare car key to the Leg 1 runner before the race starts.
Leg 3 runner parks at Eau Claire – due East of the Sheraton or due South of the Mall is closest and gives their spare car key to the Leg 2 runner before the race starts. Key exchange is best done prior to race morning.
Leg 1 runner runs to Leg 2, hands off to Leg 2 runner, then walks to the Rouge parking lot and drives Leg 2’s car to the finish (North lot).
Leg 2 runner runs to Leg 3, hands off to Leg 3 runner, then drives Leg 3’s car to the finish (North lot).
Ultimately all runners and all cars end up in the North parking lot – close to the finish line.
CHIP HAND OVER
We have disposable chips pinned to the bib with clip provided. As you approach the handover, pull the chip from your bib and pass it to your team mate over the chip mat. The continuing team member then pins the chip to his/her bib until the next handover or finish.
